Pine is Stora Skuggan's eighth perfume and its plainest premise. After a run of myths (booming unexplained sounds, spices harvested to extinction, a thumb-sucking baby god), the Stockholm house set one note in the bottle: a soliflore, in its words a vase holding an enormous tree. Tomas Hempel builds the whole tree rather than a needle, from the fresh spruce shoot and sweet, sacred-smelling sap down to dry bark and dead needles on the forest floor. An eau de parfum.
