Tobacco Mandarin

No shop we can find has a bottle of Tobacco Mandarin left to sell. Liberty's 50 ml, marked down from £335 to £268, is sold out, as are Bloomingdale's in Dubai, Niche Gallery and Alla Violetta, and Thaler has taken its page down; what remains is a 2 ml decant at The Perfumed Court, sold as a last call.

The department stores are letting it go as well: 24S now marks the 50 ml as no longer available and files it under "Byredo Old", and SSENSE has taken its page down. Niche Gallery and Alla Violetta both show the 50 ml sold out again, so the bottle is down to whatever decants remain.

Niche Gallery in Dubai is out of the 50 ml again, and Escentials has taken its page down. For the moment none of the boutiques we follow has a full bottle to sell; The Perfumed Court still decants it, up to 3 ml.

A full bottle is back on sale. Niche Gallery in Dubai, which had been listing the 50 ml without being able to fill it, accepted an order for it today at AED 1,567.50 — the first tracked boutique to sell Tobacco Mandarin as a bottle rather than a decant since the summer. It is one shop and one listing; the house still does not carry it, and the other boutiques with a page remain out of stock. The decant channel has meanwhile renamed itself to match the moment: The Perfumed Court's listing now carries "last call" in the title, and still stops at 3 ml.

The last thing anyone could buy is getting smaller. The Perfumed Court, which has had Tobacco Mandarin on last call since July, has lost the 5 ml — the largest decant it sold a fortnight ago — and the listing now stops at 3 ml for $62.95, with quarter- and half-millilitre vials under it. The shop's other last-call bottle, Tom Ford's Beau de Jour, still goes up to 15 ml, so the ceiling has dropped on this one alone. Full bottles remain out of stock wherever they are listed, Niche Gallery in Dubai included at AED 1,567.50. There is nothing left to investigate: the house does not sell it, the boutiques cannot replace what they have, and what is still going out is somebody else's bottle poured into a vial.

Sold out again at Niche Gallery in Dubai since 10 August, ten days after bottles briefly came back there: the 50 ml is still listed at AED 1,567.50 and cannot be bought. Alla Violetta shows it without stock as well, so no tracked boutique has a full bottle today — the only thing selling is a decant at The Perfumed Court. Byredo's own site still returns nothing for the name.

Bottles are back, at least at one boutique: Niche Gallery in Dubai has the 50 ml at AED 1,567.50 and it goes through at checkout, three days after every tracked shop showed it sold out. Alla Violetta and Escentials still list it without stock, and Byredo itself still does not list it at all.

Now stocked by three tracked boutiques on paper and out of stock at every one of them — Alla Violetta (EUR 300), Escentials in Singapore and Niche Gallery (AED 1,567.50). The only thing still selling is a 5 ml decant at The Perfumed Court, labelled "LAST CALL". Full bottles have left the boutique channel.

Out of stock at the major authorised partners too: Selfridges keeps the page up but says "this product is currently unavailable" ($340 / 50 ml), and Harrods UK reports "currently out of stock". Byredo itself still does not list it.

Gone from byredo.com — the house no longer lists it anywhere on its own site, and Nose Paris has dropped it from its Night Veils shelf.

Community reports it discontinued and pulled from Byredo stores and official retailers; remaining bottles surfacing on the grey market.
