Is Burnt Hinoki by Scents of Wood discontinued?Not confirmed — we are investigating a possible discontinuation. Latest evidence, Oct 21, 2026: Scents of Wood no longer offers Burnt Hinoki: the 75 ml and the 10 ml travel spray have both gone from its shop, while Hinoki in Hinoki, its other hinoki scent, is still sold. The house sold the 75 ml at $240 from April 2025 and had it in stock as late as October 2025; by March 2026 its page read sold out, and the bottle has been withdrawn since. The house has said nothing about it.
Burnt Hinoki is Scents of Wood's tribute to shou sugi ban, the Japanese craft of charring timber so that it lasts. Perfumer Domitille Michalon took her cue from a mansion whose walls were panelled in smoked hinoki marquetry. The eau de parfum, at 15%, opens on the piney snap of juniper berry before a smoked hinoki accord and Himalayan cedarwood close in, with cypress, vetiver, myrrh and olibanum giving the char its depth.
