L'Eau d'Hiver is Jean-Claude Ellena's 2003 eau de toilette for Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, a "warm water" in the house's words: the lucid minimalism of an eau de Cologne, made to warm the skin rather than cool it. Ellena took Guerlain's Après l'Ondée as his starting point and stripped it to its essentials. Bergamot and Hedione open clear and cold, then settle into a powdery cloud of heliotrope, iris and hawthorn, softened by honey and almond.
