Iris Cendré is the ashen iris of Naomi Goodsir, the Australian-born milliner whose perfumes are made near Grasse. Julien Rasquinet composed it for her in 2015 from what the house calls memories of orris ashes. Bergamot, tangerine and spices give way to a smoky, powdery heart of incense, violet and a green, rooty iris butter, which burns down into cistus, tobacco and amber. An eau de parfum, nominated for France's 2016 FiFi Experts Award.

Naomi Goodsir sells Iris Cendré in its own e-boutique as a 50 ml eau de parfum at €180. The house credits Julien Rasquinet (2015) and calls it iridescent, earthy and nonconformist, inspired by memories of orris ashes. Its notes are bergamot, tangerine and spices, then an incense and powder heart of violet and iris, then cistus, tobacco and amber, all around a green, rooty, creamy iris butter. The listing also names its nomination for the 2016 FiFi Awards Experts Award.

Now Smell This reviewed Iris Cendré a few weeks after launch and called it a fireplace iris. Citrus gives way almost at once to burning wood, pepper, crushed stems and an earthy iris, and it burns down to a dry, rooty tobacco base that never turns sweet. The review gave the price as $187 for 50 ml eau de parfum.
