Imaginary Authors has not said it is discontinuing The Cobra & The Canary. It has done nearly everything else. The fragrance's page is gone from the house's shop, where only the body oil is left, and the FAQ, straight after the list of scents the house no longer makes, now asks: "Do you love The Cobra and The Canary? You might want to order a bottle now." It is one of the seven Josh Meyer opened the house with in Portland in 2012: lemon and orris over tobacco flowers, settling into leather with hay and asphalt. Aus Liebe zum Duft still had the 50 ml at €110 on 16 October.
The list it sits under has grown. Telegrama, O, Unknown! and Whispered Myths are all on it now, "regrettably discontinued and unavailable", and the house has none of them to sell. Boutiques still do. Perfume Lounge had Telegrama in the basket at €110 on 16 October, Aus Liebe zum Duft was selling O, Unknown! at €110 the next day, and Hungary's 7scents had three Whispered Myths at 45,990 HUF.
Uncovered is what Clive Christian calls its new naked perfume: luxury that doesn't shout, in the house's words, boxed in what is meant to look like a block of ice. It went on sale on 16 October on the house's British, European and American shops at once, a limited edition in one size, 50 ml at £400, €465 or $500. A floral musk at 40 per cent, of 164 ingredients: a fresh aldehyde with eucalyptus and bergamot on top, immortelle absolute and orris in the heart, white musk over sandalwood and amber. No perfumer is named.
Twenty-one more arrivals below, ten more on the Watch, among them Penhaligon's Lothair, whose boxed bottle has left the house's British and American sites, and nine price and stock moves.
